Viola Davis: Keeping Busy During Hiatus

Two-time Tony-winner Viola Davis (2001, Best Featured Actress in a Play, King Headley II, 2010, Best Actress in a Play, Fences) is keeping busy while her ABC hit How To Get Away with Murder is on hiatus.

First, news broke recently that Viola has signed on to play comic book badass Amanda Waller (previously played by Oscar-nominee and Image Award-winner Angela Bassett in 2011’s Green Lantern) in Suicide Squad, opposite Will Smith (Producer of 2009’s Broadway hit Fela!).

The Suicide Squad is an antihero team of incarcerated super-villains who act as deniable assets for the United States government, undertaking high-risk black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.

Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters in 2016.

Up next for Davis is Custody, a film “set in family court in New York,” which “will see Davis co-star as Judge Martha Sherman, who presides over a custody case of a young woman (played by Catalina Sandino Moreno) who is on the verge of losing her children.” Custody is directed by three-time Best Book of a Musical Tony-winner James Lapine (1988, Into the Woods, 1992, Falsettos, 1994, Passion), and is also being produced by Viola and her husband Julius Tennon’s production company, JuVee Produtions.

Viola is a force to be reckoned with, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
