Soul Train Dances Its Way To Broadway

Clear the aisle and brush up on your favorite dance moves! “Soul Train,” the longest running first-run and nationally syndicated show, is making its way to the Great White Way.

Soul Train MusicalPenned as a musical narrative, the show will follow the life of creator, Don Cornelius, and give context to some of our favorite episodes and guests through song. Look forward to hearing Ike & Tina Turner‘s “Proud Mary,” The Spinners‘ “I’ll Be Around,” Minnie Riperton‘s “Loving You,” and Gladys Knight & The Pips‘ “Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me,” among other classic hits.

“CSI:Crime Scene Investigation”‘s creator, Anthony Zuiker, will write the show of which Rock of Ages Producer, Matthew Weaver, gained the theatrical stage rights.

Zuiker has been a lifelong fan of the show and credits it with helping him through personal times of adversity.

I speak from the heart when I say that “Soul Train” touched me deeply. It has impacted this country on so many levels, bringing joy and hope to so many people out there, including me. I am truly honored that Matthew Weaver and the rights holders have trusted me to share this important story and look forward to bringing Soul Train: The Musical to Broadway.

Magic Johnson, chairmen of Soul Train Holdings, LLC, also expressed excitement around bringing this groundbreaking show to the stage.

“Soul Train” has made a significant impact on American music and pop culture and its legacy and appeal continue to resonate around the world. Creating a live theatrical interpretation of this iconic franchise is an opportunity that could not be missed.

Originally, Cornelius promoted and emceed local concerts around Chicago and called these shows “The Soul Train.” After being recognized for his publicity, Cornelius was given the opportunity to bring this same type of atmosphere to TV. Soul Train highlighted Black culture, performers, and artists by featuring new music and dance moves, on air weekly from 1971-2006.

Dates have not yet been released for the timeline and release of this project.
