Oprah Dodges Broadway Debut Again

There have been so much talk about Oprah Winfrey potentially coming to Broadway. Would she ever play Sophia in The Color Purple The Musical? Probably not but the word was she might do the revival of Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, ‘night, Mother opposite six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald. Oprah would be playing mother trying to help her daughter and prevent her from suicide.

Recently though it was reported by Hollywood Reporter that Oprah just didn’t want to commit to that.

“I just didn’t want to be in the space of suicide every night for six months,” she explained. “I’d like something with a happier ending.”

What an excellent way to dodge a good piece. This doesn’t mean that her Broadway debut is not still in the works. She will head to New York in the next couple weeks to view two other potential plays. However, with all her other film projects, the OWN network, closing of Harpo Studios, and all the other things she has her hand in we’re hoping she finds the time to give her best to Broadway in the near future.
