15 years ago today, Ragtime opened at Foxwood Theatre in New York. Directed by Frank Galati, Ragtime starred Brian Stokes Mitchell, Peter Friedman, Marin Mazzie and Audra McDonald. It was nominated for 13 Tony awards in but won only 4 including Best Featured Actress for McDonald . Ragtime ran for two years before it closed on January 16, 2000 after 834 performances.

On Feb.18th, Manhattan Concert Productions will be doing a concert performance of Ragtime featuring Lea Salonga as Mother, Norm Lewis as Coalhouse Walker Jr., Tyne Daly as Emma Goldman, Philip Boykin as Booker T. Washington, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sarah’s Friend. The have yet to make an announcement as to who will be playing Sarah for this production. It would be amazing if Audra McDonald would portray Sarah again but we must wait to find out as they are still casting. I know that we will be in the building that night and you should be too. For tickets, head over to Lincoln Center’s website to find out more information.
