Must See: Kirsten Greenidge Play Luck of the Irish Opens

Playwright Kirsten Greenidge’s new play Luck of the Irish opens tonight at the Lincoln Center’s Claire Tow Theater. Previously known for her work Milk Like Sugar and Bossa Nova “the territory she explores in The Luck of the Irish is so little known that she feared her play’s central circumstance would be dismissed as an “isolated incident” with “no bearing on history” says Greenidge.

Based on her family’s history, Luck of the Irish follows the story of “an upwardly mobile African-American couple wants to buy a home in an all-white neighborhood of 1950’s Boston, they pay a struggling Irish family to “ghost-buy” a house on their behalf. Fifty years later, the Irish family wants ‘their’ house back. Moving across two eras, Luck of the Irish explores racial and social issues and the universal longing for home.”

Directed by Rebecca Taichman, Luck of the Irish features Marsha Stephanie Blake, Eisa Davis, Dashiell Eaves, and Robert Hogan. Also in the cast is  Frank Harts, Jenny O’Hara, Carra Patterson, and Amanda Quaid.
