Meet 2013 Tony Nominee: Billy Porter “It’s His Year!”

Its been 12 years since the last African American man has won a Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Musical. The ever so talented Billy Porter is among the nominees this year, following in the footsteps of greats like Gregory Hines and Ben Vereen. He portrays the lovely Lola in the new “high heeled hit” Kinky Boots and hes the front runner to snag the award. It’s been a few years since Porter has been on Broadway but that doesn’t mean people have forgotten his talent. Everyone that knows of his work are all saying “It’s his time. It’s his year!” and indeed it is. Porter is a treasure in this show and is sure to set fire to the stage during his Tony performance.

Having been seen on Broadway in Smokey’s Joes Cafe and Grease in previous years, Billy Porter is a vibrant sensation in the dazzling new musical that is Kinky Boots. Everyone is taking notice.
