Picture

Ed Bullins’ latest offering ‘Storyville,’ is closing on Saturday, so this is your LAST CHANCE to see the swingin’ musical!

York Theatre Company shares:

New Orleans, 1917: Something happened that helped change America’s music forever.

The time, Mardi Gras; the place, Storyville – the red light district, two blocks from the French Quarter.  Saloons, gambling joints, brothels and pervasive political corruption set the scene for a new kind of music.  People fell in love, a world disappeared and the music moved upriver.  Directed by BILL CASTELLINO, with choreography by MERCEDES ELLINGTON and music direction by WILLIAM FOSTER McDANIELStoryville is written by playwright ED BULLINS (The Taking of Miss Janie – Obie Award) with music and lyrics by MILDRED KAYDEN (IonescopadeCall the Children Home).

Featuring two-time Tony Award® nominee Ernestine Jackson, D.C. Anderson, Cory Bretsch, Karen Burthwright, Kyle Robert Carter and other fabulous artists, ‘Storyville’ has been wow’ing audiences since July and has gotten rave reviews. The New York Times calls it “tirelessly exuberant,” The Wall Street Journal calls it “moving” and “charming,” and Time Out NY calls it “a fascinating milieu! BIG AND EASY!”
