Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity Movie Starring Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, & Mary J. Blige

Based on a famous play by Langston Hughes, Black Nativity will hit the big screen with some big names and big voices. It seems Jennifer Hudson, who has been doing everything but Broadway, will star in this movie musical adaption alongside Angela Bassett, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, and young song bird Jacob Latimore. The movie will also have appearances from R&B crooners Tyrese, Luke James, and Mary J. Blige. This one movie you don’t want to miss.

Also, since the movie was shot in New York, you’ll be bound to see people from your favorite Broadway shows somewhere in the mix as extras and even speaking roles. It seemed as though everyone we knew played a role in this film. Check out the trailer below. This magical musical movie is set to be released on Novemeber 27th.

Black Nativity follows Langston (Latimore), a street-wise teen from Baltimore raised by a single mother, as he journeys to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett).

Unwilling to live by the imposing Reverend Cobbs’ rules, a frustrated Langston is determined to return home to his mother, Naima (Jennifer Hudson). Langston embarks on a surprising and inspirational journey and along with new friends, and a little divine intervention, he discovers the true meaning of faith, healing, and family.
