Holler If Ya Hear Me: The New Tupac Musical Will Be Directed By Kenny Leon

Famed Broadway director and Tony Award nominee Kenny Leon is set to direct a summer workshop of a new musical based on the life of the late and great Tupac Shakur. Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, must’ve have approved this project because this will be the second workshop that has gone up for this piece entilted Holler If Ya Hear Me.

The five week workshop takes on the title from a song on the Shakur’s second album, which has become a classic to more than just his fans. It seems very suiting for a book that has been penned by Todd Kreidler. Choreogrpahey is set to be done by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento (Wicked)

Kenny Leon has been responsible for the direction of many black experiences being told on Broadway over the last several years, A Raisin In The Sun to Stick Fly and almost everything in between.

“Holler If Ya Hear Me is a new musical inspired by the work of Tupac Shakur. Set present-day in the inner city streets ‘my block’ of a Mid-western industrial city, Holler tells the story of two childhood friends (John and Vertus) and their friends, relatives and adversaries as they struggle to reconcile the challenges and realities of their daily lives with their hopes, dreams and ambitions.”

This should be very interesting. It may be a well over another year before its performance ready but we’ll wait for it. Over 15 years after since your untimely death, Tapuc; Yet you’re still a name in headlines and we “ain’t mad at cha”.
