Fantasia to Star in ‘After Midnight’ with Wynton Marsalis

Last week, we wrote about how Fantasia would be returning to the Broadway stage but we didn’t know what she would be in. There were rumors swirling around that she would star in the Cotton Club when it finally would make its debut on Broadway. Well we called it! It was announced that Cotton Club will transition to Broadway in the 2013-14 season but it will have a brand new name. Scott Sanders, lead producer, announced that the new name of the show is After Midnight but will be the same show that people have grown to love at City Center. Fantasia will return to Broadway starring in this production.is a jazz revue that takes place in the famed Harlem nightclub, The Cotton Club. Nine-time Grammy Award winner Wynton Marsalis and The Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars comprised the band in the City Center production, all of whom will return with the show on Broadway.

This six million dollar production will begin previews at Brooks Atkinson theatre on October 18 and open on November 3.  This production will be directed/choreographed by Warren Carlyle and the costumes will be designed by Isabel Toledo. There haven’t been any official announcements about casting for this production, so we might see Fantasia or we might not. All I know is that if she is in this production, we hope she won’t miss 50 performances like she did for The Color Purple.
