Adepero Oduye Follows Condola Rashad in The Trip to Bountiful

Condola Rashad bids adieu to her Tony Award nominated role in The Trip to Bountiful to prepare for her first starring role in the Broadway revival of Romeo & Juliet with Orlando Bloom.

The Trip to Bountiful was so successful that its initial 14-week engagement was extended through October 9th thereby conflicting with Romeo & Juliet’s production schedule (previews begin August 24th).

After starring in Dee Rees’ critically-acclaimed Pariah (2011), Adepero Oduye will be making her Broadway debut in the role of Thelma on July 16th. Both Oduye and Rashad starred in the 2012 Lifetime remake of Steel Magnolias directed by Kenny Leon.

Oduye’s theater credits include Lydia Diamond’s The Bluest Eye (Hartford Stage, Long Wharf Theatre) and Danai Gurira’s Eclipsed (Yale Repertory Theatre). She also workshopped Fela! with Bill T. Jones.

The inspiring American classic, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, tells the story of Carrie Watts, an elderly woman forced to live with her overprotective son and domineering daughter-in-law, who dreams of returning to her small hometown of Bountiful, TX one last time. Her journey becomes a heartbreaking but ultimately life-affirming and inspiring tale that examines the fragility of memory and celebrates the enduring power of hope and faith.
