3: Black Girl Blues at 2015 United Solo Theatre Festival

3: Black Girl Blues, a one-woman show starring Danielle Mone’ Truitt, is a tale of three close friends who grew up together and are confronted with facing their demons at thirty years old. They cling to vanity, envy and pain, all while trying to make sense of their past, present and future.  The characters represent a lack of spiritual confidence that plagues many.  These are women we know intimately.

Previously performed in Los Angeles and Sacramento, the show will be featured at the 2015 United Solo Theatre Festival on September 23, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. The annual international festival is the world’s largest solo theatre festival, and is currently in its 6th season. It is held at the highly acclaimed Theatre Row in the heart of the New York City theatre district on 42nd Street. Through a variety of one-person shows, the Festival explores and celebrates the uniqueness of the individual.

Danielle Mone’ Truitt made history when she joined the cast of the Oscar-Nominated movie, “The Princess and the Frog. As the video reference for Princess Tiana, Danielle performed the body movements and facial expressions, giving Princess Tiana her persona and essence. Truitt also performed a voice for the character, Georgia. Most recently, Danielle has been seen on ABC’s “Super Fun Night,” Fox’s “Mulaney” and Fox Digital’s feature film, “ETXR.”  Some of her stage credits include: Hair, In the Heights, The West Coast Premiere of The Mountaintop, Neat, Aida and A Raisin in the Sun. Truitt conceived of the idea for 3: Black Girl Blues and says, “It’s a dream for me to be able to perform on Broadway, and the first time I ever perform in New York, it will be in my own show.”

Similarly, the show’s writer and director, Anthony D’Juan feels a mixture of confidence and excitement:

I’m excited, and I’m terrified. I feel opportunity. I’m curious at how New York will respond to this play. We’re performing in front a bunch of people we don’t know at all. We don’t have a safety net anymore. I think it will prove we don’t need one.

3: Black Girl Blues has been adapted into a feature film entitled “Unsound,” which Truitt will perform in and produce. Broadway Black wishes 3: Black Girl Blues much success on the show! For more information on the show and how to get tickets, click here
