As we previously reported, we were all saddened when Brandy Norwood ended her critically acclaimed and mesmerizing run as “Roxie Hart” in Chicago. But, the way she totally owned the role and captivated audiences has lead her to the City of Angels where she’ll sing and dance her way into West Coast hearts. (Yep, pun definitely intended.)
The Grammy Award winner will reprise her role as the lovable murderess in a limited one-week engagement from April 26-May1, 2016 at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre.
Brandy made her Broadway debut as “Roxie Hart” on April 28 at the Ambassador Theatre and originally was supposed to end her run June 21. However, due to rave reviews and popular demand her run was extended until August 2nd.
The pop diva’s appearance in Chicago wasn’t her first musical. She starred opposite Whitney Houston in the 1997 TV adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”
Brandy, who’s one of our Broadway Black favorites, has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, including such hits as “I Wanna Be Down” and “The Boy Is Mine.” She’s also famously known as the star of her own sitcom, “Moesha,” and recently received a 2014 NAACP Image Award for her role as “Chardonnay” on BET’s “The Game.”
If you didn’t catch Brandy on Broadway and you’re headed to Los Angeles in April, tickets for Chicago can be purchased here.
